Note –Under HSAC guidance, the size of the FATO/Safe Landing Area can be reduced to 0.83D for all helicopters if thehelideckis surrounded by a solid safety fence, but in this circumstance the clearance from obstacles must still remain 0.83D from the center of the aiming circle. HSAC also allows 0.62 helidecksfor helicopters under 7,000 pounds with solid safety fences, no obstacles for 360 degrees and satellite platforms.

2.3HelideckObstacle Free Sector MarkingThe origin of the 210°obstacle free sector (OFS) for approach and take off should be marked on thehelideckby a chevron. Each leg of the chevron shall be a minimum of 2.5 ft long and 1 ft (0.3m) wide, forming an angle that indicates the direction of the limits of the sector. The chevronshall be marked in a conspicuous color, as shown on Figure 3.On minimum sizedhelideckswhere there is no room to place the chevron where indicated, the chevron marking, but not the point of origin, may be displaced towards the D circle center. The purpose of the chevron is to delineate the separation of the 210°OFS and the 150°limited obstacle sector (LOS). Onhelideckswhere there are no obstacles for 360 degrees, no obstacle chevron is required.
2.4Installation Identification MarkingsThe installation identification should be marked on thehelidecksurface between the origin of the obstacle-free sector and the aiming circle in symbols not less than 4 ft (1.2 meters) high and in a color (normally white) which contrasts with thehelidecksurface. As shown in Figure 3. Block numbers, when used, should be augmented by the platform name or other identification when there is more than one platform in the block. Company logos, if used, shall be positioned so as not to interfere with any other required helideck marking. The approved radio call sign of the installation should be the same name as thehelideck. The installation radio frequency may be identified on the helideckusing symbols not less than 3ft (0.9m) high and in a colorthat contrasts with the helidecksurface.
2.5Limiting Size/RD ValueThe limiting size or RD value marking will designate the rotor diameter of the largest helicopter that can safely use the helideck and can assume obstacle clearance from the helideck markings. Obstacle clearance is derived from measurements relating to the D value/ Overall length of the largest helicopter type to be used. The D value indicates the size of the obstacle free surface, which on most helidecks will conform with the FATO, but on smaller platforms should indicate the size of the obstacle free surface and 150°sector (see App1) that can be contained on the platform. In either case, the RD value marked may not conform to the actual size of the helideck/FATO.For restricted size decks that do not allow a 1D obstacle free surface + 150°obstacle free sector for the largest type of aircraft used, see Section 2.11.For the Gulf of Mexico (GOM), the RD value may be marked in feet, to the nearest whole number, in red numerals on a white background, as shown in Figure 3. The height of the figures should be 3ft (0.9m) with a line width of approximately 5 inches (0.12m)(Note: Helidecksmarked fully in accordance with ICAO Annex 14 or CAP437 will have a D Value (OL) marked in metres, with the figures around the perimeter marking. D Values marked in accordance with figure 3 shall be assumed to be in feet, whilst markings in the perimeter line iawICAO shall be assumed to be in meters.)
