2.6Maximum Allowable Weight MarkingsA maximum allowable mass marking should consist of a two-three digit number to indicate the allowable helicopter mass in thousands ofpounds expressed to one decimal place, rounded to the nearest 100 pounds. (iefor 15,600 lbs marked as 15.6). For the Gulf of Mexico (GOM), it maybe marked in feet, to the nearest whole number, in red numerals on a whitebackground, as shown in Figure 3. The height of the figures should be 3ft (0.9m) with a line width of approximately 5 inches (0.12m).(Note: Helidecksmarked fully in accordance with ICAO Annex 14 or CAP437 will have the maximum allowable mass marked in tonnes (1000kg), with the figures below the platform identification marking.)
2.7HelideckAccess PointsForhelidecksthat are not manned by ahelideckcrew who would provide direction to passengers, the access points shall be highlighted by a red box on the perimeter line as shown in figure 3. To enhance passenger control, especially on facilities that are unmanned or lackinghelideckattendants, a permanent walkway to the aiming circle may be painted on thehelidecksurface (Need to provide dimensions) or A permanent walkway to the aiming circle is not recommended as in certain wind directions this maybe aligned with the helicopters tail rotor, presenting an unacceptable hazard.
Aiming circle/ positioning marker150°Limited Obstacle SectorPilots seat over aiming circle. Helicopter clear of obstacles.2.8Aiming Circle/Positioning MarkerAn aiming circle or touchdown/positioning marking shall be provided as detailed below. The aiming circle shall be located so that when operatinga helicopter whose size is equal to or less than the D value of the deck, with the pilots seat is over the marking, the undercarriage will be inside the load bearing area and all parts of the helicopter will be clear of any obstacle by a safe margin, as indicated in Figure 5. For this reason the diameter of the aiming circle will vary depending on the D size of the helideck.
The marking should be a yellow circle with an inner diameter of 0.5 of the D-value of thehelideckand a line width of 3 ft (1 m), as shown in Figure 6. In order to achieve an increased safety margin for tail rotor clearance, its center should be displaced 0.1 D from the center of the D-circle towards the outboard edge of thehelideck, along the bisector of the obstacle-free sector. On smallerhelideckswith a FATO/helidecksurface up to and including 52ft (16.00 m), there is a case for making the aiming circle concentric with the FATO center to ensure maximization of space all round for safe personnel movement and optimization of the visual cueing environment. On such decks the line width of the aiming circle can also be reduced to maintain proportion, but the inner diameter of 0.5D must be retained to maintain the markings for obstacle clearance.
