Directions
A white ‘H’should be marked co-located with the aiming circle with the crossbar of the ‘H’lying along the bisector of the obstacle-free sector. Its dimensions are as shown in Figure 7. On restricted size deck (descridedinpara2.11), where the aiming circle does not provide obstacle clearance, the aiming circle and “H”dimensions can be reduced in proportion to the FATO size.2.5 ftWide10 ft13 ft
2.9Prohibited Landing Sector MarkingsWhere an isolated obstruction infringes the 150°limited obstacle sector, a prohibited landing heading sector should be marked on the deck to protect the helicopter from landing or maneuvering in close proximity to theobstruction. When positioning over the touchdown area helicopters should be maneuvered so as to keep the aircraft noseclear of the hatched prohibited sector at all times.Where required, the prohibited sector(s) are to be shown by red hatching of the aiming circle, on the opposite side of the aiming circle from the obstacle, with white and red hatching extending from the aiming circle out to the edge of the FATO/safe landing area, as shown in Figure 8.

In such circumstances, where thehelideckcannot be used, the ‘closed’state of thehelideckshould be indicated by use of the signal shown in Figure 9. This signal is the international standard ‘landing prohibited’signal given in the Rules of the Air and Air Traffic Control Regulations, except that it has been altered in size to just cover the letter ‘H’inside the aiming circle.
2.11Restricted SizeHelidecksFor legacyhelideckswhere a 1D obstacle free surface cannot be achieved, due to old design or the presence of permanent obstructions, and on which maneuvering obstacle clearance cannot be assured for the largesttype of helicopter flown to that deck, the variance and departure from the standard must be indicated clearly to the pilot. The marking that will designate ahelideckdoes not conform to the HSAC/ICAO obstacle clearance will be the coloring of the inside of the aiming circle red, as shown in Figure 10. Preferred landing headings, that will allow lateral separation should be marked on the deck with white arrows positioned outside the aiming circle, as shown in Figure 10.The aiming circle of such a deck must still be positioned as a maneuver reference for the pilot, in a position that when the pilot is over the aiming circle on the designated heading, there will be safe lateral separationbetween the rotor disk and an obstacle. The recommended minimum separation between the rotor disk and an obstacle, when the aircraft is positioned over the aiming circle is 1/3 RD.
